    The US Army’s herringbone twill jacket evolved through several updates between 1941 and 1943, each one refining how it worked in the field. Early versions featured cuffed sleeves and pleated chest pockets, but later patterns shifted to larger, gusseted pockets and straight sleeves for easier movement. By the third pattern, details like a collar button for attaching a hood and an internal gas flap were added to improve protection, marking it as “Special.” Across all versions, the 13-star metal buttons and wider spacing at the top give it that distinct military look, especially when worn open with a broad lapel.
