Description
The Super “Denim” Collectibles, started by the Brand Director Yuichi Fukutomi, is the result of Sugar Cane's latest, and most challenging project: reproduction of denim manufactured during WWII. This collection features two specific years of production: 1943 and 1946. WWII was marked by rationing and production limitations of civilian clothing, and Sugar Cane has faithfully recreated denim of this time according to deadstock samples they obtained and thoroughly examined. The color, texture, flaws, and manufacturing methods were reproduced for a look that accurately captures what was available at the time.
The 1946 model was more developed and consistent than the 1943 model, but this reproduction still exemplifies the rough edges of war-time production that would be improved on in later production. The fabric is more blue than the 1943 model, but still rougher than post-war denim. The copper rivets are now branded, but inconsistent with both “CO.” and “Co.” mixed together. The construction methods are still lack refinement, with part of the waist pocket fabric and crotch area folded and stitched, and part of the fly hem unfinished. An orange tinted yellow thread is now used for certain double-needle stitched areas.
