The Kabusa Blanket is the second collaboration between Indigofera and Red Wing. The inspiration for this collaboration comes from historic rugs and blankets made in the early 1700s found in southern Sweden. The patterns and technique for this new blanket are drawn from a universal way of weaving. In addition to Sweden, this technique has been discovered in among indigenous weaving found in Asia, North and South America, and as far back as during the period of the Pharaohs of Egypt.
The name “Kabusa” is a nature preserve in Skåne, located in in southern Sweden. This was the area where these rugs and blankets have been woven throughout the centuries. Examples of “Röllakan weave” woven in Skåne / Sweden occurs from early 1700s and onwards. The tradition was always rich in colors, pattern, and symbols. One can see the technique's relationship with the Middle East, far east and the Americas.
